The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) developed a toolkit full of innovative solutions deployed at the state level to protect our nation’s vulnerable nursing home residents during the COVID-19 pandemic—all scouted and sourced by the IPRO QIN-QIO and other Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organizations (QIN-QIOs) serving every state and territory.
Governors, long term care facilities staff and health care providers are all referencing the toolkit to benefit the millions of Medicare beneficiaries and families they serve each day. Frequent updates are planned as long as they are needed.
To create the Toolkit on State Actions to Mitigate COVID-19 Prevalence in Nursing Homes, the IPRO QIN-QIO went to its sources at the state and local level to gather the practical solutions that nursing homes and state and local governments can use to help navigate the COVID-19 crisis.
“That’s what QIN-QIOs do every day. We connect organizations with the similar goals in lots of different settings—nursing homes, physician offices, state and community agencies, hospitals, and more—to make health care better for communities. The COVID-19 crisis is an extension of that quality improvement work.”
Marguerite McLaughlin, Nursing Home Quality Improvement Regional Lead
CMS taps QIN-QIOs to help improve health care quality at the local level. The IPRO QIN-QIO works with nursing homes in New England, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, and the District of Columbia to provide tools and resources on infection control processes, staff training and retention, and evolving guidelines and regulations.
The IPRO QIN-QIO is inviting nursing homes to join a new round of quality improvement initiatives with CMS. These initiatives align with existing nursing home priorities during COVID-19 and beyond.
