African American History Month

February is African American History Month, which sheds light on African American culture and health.

Heart disease, diabetes, and stroke affect people of all ethnicities. However, certain groups—including African Americans and older individuals—are at greater risk.

Knowing more about family health histories and the early detection of predisposed health conditions helps support prevention efforts, effective treatments, and better prognoses.

CDC’s My Family Health Portrait is a free, online tool that collects family health history and assesses your risk for certain conditions.
