According to Healthy People 2030, studies have shown that LGBTQ+ individuals experience disparities in healthcare, societal stigma, and discrimination.
These negative factors are associated with poorer health outcomes and higher rates of psychiatric disorders and substance abuse. Eliminating healthcare disparities for LGBTQ+ individuals is essential so they have the opportunity to be as healthy as possible.
Subject matter experts from the Fenway Institute were on this webinar to:
- Discuss the ways in which the LGBTQ+ community experiences disparities in healthcare
- Promote equitable practices that ensure LGBTQ+ individuals receive care and services tailored to their unique needs
- Discuss the importance of SOGI (sexual orientation/gender identity) data collection and the use of anatomical inventories to reduce disparities and improve health outcomes
- Promote culturally competent care
