New England Town Hall on July 29: Substance Use & COVID-19: A Way Forward

July 29, 2020 @ 2-3:30PM EDT

The US. Department of Health & Human Services hosted a New England Virtual Town Hall with the U.S. Surgeon General, VADM Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH, entitled Substance Use and COVID-19: A Way Forward.

This virtual, live New England Town Hall was designed to help our region chart a way forward with renewed momentum for addressing substance use during this time of COVID-19. VADM Adams offered a powerful message about how to safely continue our “all of community” work on substance use during COVID-19. This Town Hall allowed us to listen and discuss best practices for prevention, rescue, treatment, and recovery from substance use during these challenging times, with a focus on health equity.

Goals for the Town Hall:

  • Understand the status of substance use in the New England states, with a focus on health equity
  • Learn about best practices which will contribute to the continuation of work on substance use in New England, especially in the time of COVID-19
  • Engage with the virtual audience across New England to understand their concerns and priorities for further action on substance use
