Anticoagulation Learning Circle
November 15, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
THE IPRO QIN-QIO INVITES YOU
TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR
Anticoagulation Learning Circle
- Anticoagulants (blood thinners) are important for preventing and treating blood clots but are associated with an increased risk for bleeding.
- Using anticoagulants safely requires a careful balance between risks and benefits.
- Among older adults, oral anticoagulants are the most common causes of adverse drug events (ADEs) leading to emergency room visits and emergent hospitalizations. Oral anticoagulants include warfarin and the direct-acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) such as apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban, and rivaroxaban.’
- Bleeding from oral anticoagulants resulted in approximately 235,000 emergency department visits.
- Older adults (≥65 years of age) were involved in approximately 80% of DOAC-related bleeding visits and 77% of warfarin-related bleeding visits.
- DOACs contributed to approximately 40% of estimated oral anticoagulant bleeding visits. (bit.ly/45EFF8v)
The Anticoagulation Learning Circle offers a forum for education and sharing of resources and best practices with a goal for all participants to benefit from the wisdom and experience of the group.
Join other clinicians and a subject matter expert in conversations focused on anticoagulation stewardship.
This Learning Circle will provide you the opportunity to:
- Review anticoagulant Adverse Drug Events (ADEs) and associated risk factors.
- Discuss actual case studies from the practice of a specialist with experience in anticoagulation stewardship.
- Use a template Action Plan to assess anticoagulation management and evaluate outcome measures.
- Pose questions about anticoagulation stewardship to a subject matter expert.
