Racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in hospital safety and quality outcomes demonstrate that care is not equitable across all populations. Person and Family Engagement (PFE) is central to the HQIC and is recognized as a promising mechanism to aid in achieving equity in both quality and safety. However, some populations may not be engaged at all – or at the same level as others – in health care for various reasons. Potential barriers may preclude successful engagement of patients and families from diverse cultural, ethnic, or socioeconomic backgrounds.
This webinar will help participating hospitals in the IPRO HQIC work towards a common goal of partnering with diverse patient and family advisors who are representative of their patient population to improve patient safety for all populations.
More specifically, this webinar will help hospitals to further understand:
- How person and family engagement (PFE) is a strategy to improve equity in both quality and safety
- How partnering with patient and family advisors can help improve quality and safety
- How to identify and recruit diverse patient and family advisors who are representative of the patient population
In addition to brief presentations from subject matter experts in PFE and health equity, this event will include a facilitated discussion with and among participants and conclude with actions or steps that all hospitals can take today to begin partnering with diverse and representative patient and family advisors.
