Description:  This introductory session will define the challenges that nursing home face when managing residents’ behavioral symptoms and expressions of dementia. In this session, we will:

• Present data on rates of dementia in correlation with antipsychotic use.
• Define the risks of antipsychotic medication use for dementia patients.
• Briefly introduce non-pharmacological strategies to mitigate disruptive and aggressive behaviors of residents with moderately advanced dementia.
