Description: Nursing homes rely on the services of psychiatric providers to give advice on managing difficult behaviors, violent episodes, and psychotic symptoms of dementia. Maintaining a healthy and collaborative relationship is important to ensure the limiting of antipsychotic use while keeping residents in nursing homes and not in EDs or inpatient psychiatry units. In this session, we will:

• Identify challenges that psychiatric services have in managing difficult behaviors related to dementia.
• Describe the optimal guidance that psychiatric services could provide to mutually benefit residents, families, nursing homes, and psychiatric services.
• Define the ideal relationship between nursing homes and psychiatric providers.
