Nursing Home Sepsis Learning Circle
March 29, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Sepsis impacts individuals across the continuum of care, with 80%-90% of sepsis-related infections occurring in the home and community. Every two minutes, someone dies of sepsis, leading to more than a quarter of a million sepsis deaths each year in patients both young and old. Every 20 seconds a person is hospitalized with sepsis, and one-in-four are re-hospitalized within 30 days. Sepsis deaths can be substantially preventable, but the solution requires participation and collaboration across the entire health care system. The Sepsis Learning Circle offers a forum for education and sharing of resources and best practices targeting early identification of sepsis with a goal for all participants to benefit from the wisdom and experience of the group to improve resident outcomes.
Join other clinicians and subject matter experts in conversation focused on sepsis identification and treatment as a medical emergency.
IPRO QIN-QIO Sepsis Learning Circle meetings will provide the opportunity to:
- Discuss the signs and symptoms of sepsis, the importance of early recognition and established protocols for emergent treatment.
- Ask a subject matter expert about sepsis protocols in the long-term care setting.
- Review the components of a turnkey Sepsis Train-the-Trainer Toolkit with materials and talking points to train all levels of staff within your facility.
Subject Matter Expert:
Sara Butterfield, RN, BSN, CPHQ
Assistant Vice President, Healthcare Quality Improvement Program
