SUMMARY:A Pharmacy-Based Approach to Caring for Individuals with Opioid-Use Disorder
DESCRIPTION:Watch Presentation \nView Slides \nDeaths from drug overdoses rose sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic\, underscoring the need for a more proactive approach to treat individuals with opioid use disorder. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) combined with compassionate\, stigma-free care is an approach that can make a difference. Unfortunately many of those who are prescribed treatment often encounter barriers\, such as travel\, inconvenient hours\, time-consuming paperwork and bureaucracy\, stigma and more. \nA recent study from researchers at Brown University\, Rhode Island Hospital and the University of Rhode Island enabled pharmacists trained in the foundations of addiction treatment to be a convenient and community-based location for patients to access care and medication. \n  \nPlease join the IPRO QIN-QIO on March 2 to learn more about this pharmacy-based approach from Dr. Jeffrey Bratberg\, a study author and clinical professor of pharmacy practice at the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. \n0106-9999-23-014-L08-P\n(1 contact hour; 0.1 CEU-Knowledge-based) \nUpon participation in this session\, attendees will: \n1. Recognize the urgent need for barrier-free medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder\,\n2. Explain the key elements of a of pharmacy-based buprenorphine induction\, and\n3. Describe the benefits of expanding access. \nJEFFREY BRATBERG\, Pharm.D.\, FAPhA\nClinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice\nUniversity of Rhode Island\nCollege of Pharmacy

SUMMARY:Partnering Beyond COVID-19: Management of Patients with Chronic Conditions: Heart Health
DESCRIPTION:Session Topic: Management of Patients with Chronic Conditions: Heart Health \nDescription: \nAlmost half of adults in the United States live with hypertension\, and many do not know it. High blood pressure is a leading cause and a controllable risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Despite the many benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation\, enrollment remains quite low –nationally\, only 10% to 34% of eligible patients enroll.  \nJoin us to recognize National Heart Month and receive important updates from the Million Hearts® campaign. Our speaker\, Haley Stolp\, MPH\, from Million Hearts®\, Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\, will talk about the evidence-based tools and resources that are available to support hypertension control and cardiac rehabilitation participation.  \nWatch Presentation\n

SUMMARY:2023: IPRO QIN-QIO LINKS: The Power of Partnership Session 1- Heart Health
DESCRIPTION:  \nIPRO QIN-QIO recognizes the impact that you have on the health of your community and believe\, like geese\, that we can be stronger working collectively. When you see geese flying along in “V” formation\, you might consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way. As each bird flaps its wings\, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in “V” formation\, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own. People who share a common direction and sense of community can achieve goals quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another. \nDuring each session\, we will review a topic of focus\n– Consider the importance of this health area\n– Explore opportunities for community based organizations to engage and support community health in this area\n– Share challenges and best practices to expand reach and impact community health \nJoin our 2023 quarterly forums to explore mutual goals and opportunities to enhance the impact our partnership can have on community health.

SUMMARY:IPRO HQIC Sepsis Affinity Group: Mid-to-large sized Hospitals
DESCRIPTION:  \nSepsis remains a national priority and is a complex and challenging condition to manage. Despite substantial attention to improvement\, an opportunity still exists to decrease sepsis-related morbidity and mortality. More than 1.7 million adults in the U.S develop sepsis every year\, leading to over 270\,000 deaths (CDC\, 2020). \nHospitals are committed to improving care\, outcomes\, and costs; however\, many have expressed they wrestle with where and how to start their quality improvement efforts. \nIPRO is launching a 6-month Sepsis Affinity Group to help support and provide a networking forum specifically for mid-to-large sized hospitals as they work to reduce sepsis-related harm. With the shared goal of accelerating learning and improvement\, participants will have access to content experts and a platform to share experiences\, evidence-based practices\, and tools\, as well as explore successes\, challenges and lessons learned to drive progress on sepsis-related harm. Some topics to be included are sepsis screening\, SEP-1 bundle compliance and reporting\, and more. \n  \nOn behalf of the IPRO HQIC team\, we look forward to your joining and working together with the Sepsis Affinity Group!

SUMMARY:Smoking Cessation- Care Teams Play a Key Role in Helping Patients Quit
DESCRIPTION:  \nSmoking leads to disease\, disability\, and harm in nearly every organ system. As with many chronic conditions\, reducing the impact of tobacco use can benefit from a team-based approach to care. \nPrevalence of tobacco use has increased during the pandemic in some areas\, while referral to evidence-based cessation programs has declined. Smoking cessation is helpful at any age\, and quitting improves health status\, and quality of life. \nIPRO QIN-QIO is hosting a discussion on Wednesday\, February 15\, at 1pm to explore how organizations can increase their referrals to evidence-based cessation programs and effectively engage community partners across the spectrum. \nAfter attending the session\, participants will be able to\, \n1. Recognize the impact of the pandemic on tobacco use\,\n2. Describe evidence-based strategies to assess tobacco use\, to provide cessation counseling\, and to refer for additional support\, and\n3. Establish a referral and feedback loop to track patients’ progress.

SUMMARY:An Overview of the National CLAS Standards
DESCRIPTION:Session 1: In this session\, IPRO will introduce the National CLAS Standards\, The Blueprint implementation guide\, and the IPRO CLAS assessment and educational series. \n  \nWhat is CLAS?\nCulturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) are a way to improve the quality of services provided to all individuals\, which will ultimately help reduce health disparities and achieve health equity. CLAS is about respect and responsiveness: Respect the whole individual and Respond to their health needs and preferences. \nWhy is CLAS Important?\nCLAS helps advance health equity to ensure that every person can “attain his or her full health potential” and no one is “disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances.” While many factors impact health equity\, providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services is an effective strategy to ensure better health outcomes for diverse populations. \nJoin IPRO for a webinar series covering the themes and standards based on the HHS National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care.  Complete the IPRO CLAS Assessment to understand where your organization is with its implementation of CLAS and use that to develop an action plan to address opportunities for improvement. This webinar series will walk through how to develop an action plan\, best practices\, and resources to help implement your action plan. \nIntroduction to CLAS Standards_02_08_23
